'Not called!' did you say? 'Not heard the call,' I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help. Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father's house and bid their brothers and sisters, and servants and masters not to come there. And then look Christ in the face, whose mercy you have professed to obey, and tell him whether you will join heart and soul and body and circumstances in the march to publish his mercy to the world. Yes, I've got a better list. 1) Read One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven, an excellent book by Mark Cahill. 2) Do what it says.
In his book, Mark points that out one thing you can't do in heaven is share your faith with a nonbeliever -- our chance to reach the lost will have ended. "Three hundred million years from now, the only thing that will matter is who is in heaven and who is in hell. And if that is the only thing that will matter then, that should be one of our greatest concerns now."
So the self-centered list of "10 things to do before going to heaven" was very disappointing! Where is obeying the Lord, fulfilling the Great Commission, reaching the lost for whom Christ died? In witnessing, we can not only have a sense of purpose and joy, "living our life to the fullest," but can lead others to eternal life.
If you want to make your life count, forget the 10 things--and just focus on doing the one thing right.
